Massive Tire Fire - Watertown, WI

Keep checking back often. The site is changing rapidly in both design and content. I'll have news updates soon!

July 25, 2005: More Pics Addes General
I added the rest of the tanker pictures I had, about 25 of them. I'll be adding the other pictures from the tire fire, as well as the pictures from the church fire later today or tomorrow hopefully.

July 25, 2005: Church Fire Area Fires
At about 11:30 PM, I was sitting in the Farm and Fleet parking lot waiting for what is to be the last shift change for the tanker drivers. A Watertown Fire Car went speeding past heading back into town with lights and sirens. Shortly after, one of the engines from the tire fire went speeding past in the same direction, again with lights and sirens. We decided to check out what was happening. Downtown Watertown, a church had caught on fire. Witnesses on the scene believe that lightning hit the church earlier in the day during the horrific storm that swept through. Units responding included Watertown, Johnson Creek, Waterloo, Newburg, Fort Atkinson, and Oconomowoc. At about 12:00 AM, the tankers hauling water to the tire fire were released, and I know I saw Boltonville at the scene of the church fire. This is the most excitment in one week I think I've ever seen in Watertown. Pics will be coming soon!

July 19, 2005: Tire Fire Area Fires
A massive fire started early Tuesday morning on at a tire recycling plant located about 2 miles North-West of Watertown, WI.
Fourteen fire departments (reportedly, but we counted more) responded with flames reaching between 80 and 100 feet. Black smoke rose more than 4,200 feet in the air, being seen easily from Madison and Milwaukee, and visible from as far away as Janesville. As WISC-TV Channel 3 has good coverage of the fire itself, I decided to make this site as a tribute to the heros of the fire, the firefighters themselves. I tried to get pictures of each tanker truck that arrived to help haul water from the edges of Watertown down to the front line of the fire. I'll update this page with more information when I can, but for now, the list of departments, and pics when available, that responded.

Thank you to all the fire fighters, police officers, city workers, and everyone from all the departments, cities, and towns that helped out.
